FAQ

Questions, answered in one place

Everything we get asked about the platform, the readers, OCR and biometrics — grouped so you can find yours fast.

The platform

What exactly does Smart Solutions provide?

A digital identity platform: an issuer and KMS to sign credentials, TENSAI readers and an SDK to verify them, AI OCR for physical documents, and face match with liveness to confirm the person presenting is real.

Do you support mobile driver licences (mDLs)?

Yes. TENSAI readers and the SDK verify mDLs and digital credentials to ISO/IEC 18013-5 in person and ISO/IEC 18013-7 online — including selective disclosure, so holders share only the fields needed.

Does verification work offline?

Yes. Issuer signatures and device binding are validated against a trusted list on the device — no internet connection or live issuer lookup is needed at the point of verification.

Does the OCR work with photos taken on a phone?

Yes. Tilted, rotated, glare-heavy or slightly blurry photos are corrected automatically before extraction — no templates, no per-document setup.

How do you check a real person is present?

With a guided selfie liveness check built on detection technology lab-tested against ISO/IEC 30107-3 — designed to stop printed photos, screen replays, masks and injected video.

Can we run it under our own brand, or on-premise?

Both. The platform is white-label ready and can run as a secure cloud API or fully on-premise where data control requires it.

How long does integration take?

The SDK exposes HID and REST paths, so most stacks integrate with a few lines of code or a single API call. Our first production deployments each went live within about a week.

mDL & TENSAI readers

Which TENSAI reader do I need?

TR-50 if you're embedding mDL reading into an existing kiosk, POS or workstation; TR-100 for attended counters that want on-screen prompts; TR-500 when one terminal should handle credentials, face match, liveness and payments together.

Do holders need a special app to be verified?

No. TENSAI readers verify credentials presented from standards-compliant wallets — including Apple and Google Wallet where issuers support them, and custom wallets.

What does the holder actually see during a check?

Their wallet shows exactly which fields are requested. They approve with a PIN or biometric, and nothing is shared until they do.

How do readers stay current on trusted issuers?

Readers hold a signed trusted list of issuer certificates and refresh it periodically — verification itself runs fully offline between refreshes.

ID Document OCR

Do I need to configure templates per document?

No. The OCR is template-free — it reads licences, passports and ID cards across layouts and languages without per-document setup.

What do I get back from a scan?

Structured JSON: the document's fields, plus signature and address-overlay extraction where present — ready for your KYC and compliance checks.

What image quality does it need?

Everyday phone photos work. Tilted, rotated, glare-heavy or slightly blurry images are corrected automatically before extraction.

Face match & liveness

What's the difference between face match and liveness?

Liveness proves a real, present person is at the camera. Face match proves that person matches the credential's portrait. Together they answer: is someone really there, and are they who they claim?

How is the liveness technology tested?

It's built on detection technology lab-tested against ISO/IEC 30107-3, the international presentation attack detection standard.

What happens when a check comes back uncertain?

Every check returns a confidence score you threshold. Low-confidence sessions can step up to manual review rather than silently failing people.

Working with us

How does pricing work?

Volume-based plans for OCR scanning, from a starter tier to enterprise agreements with on-premise deployment and white-labelling. Hardware and platform projects are quoted per engagement.

Where are you based?

Main branches in Sydney, Australia and Muscat, Oman — one team across both, working with the regions we serve.

How do we start?

Book a 1:1 demo. We'll run your own documents and use case through the platform live — no slides — and map the fastest path to production.
